| 12-3 am: Late Night with Erick
in Venice Erick: - I start to walk around the maze of alleys to take nighttime pictures by myself. The smallest, grittiest, darkest alley the better. After a few hours of taking pictures, I start heading back to the water taxi dock. Some guy starts following me, whistling. It makes me feel like, "Man, I don't want this guy to follow me going down some dark alley." I drift off course to avoid this guy, and end up in this neighborhood with lots of graffiti and some un-neighborhoodly characters. I feel like I am in the Harlem of Venice. Finally, I see these two women
hanging out in an alley so I ask them for directions. They speak broken English. I think, "I don't think I wanna go back to Venice tomorrow morning. I think I've seen more than I wanted to see!" |
