Prague
Czech it out
Talk about culture shock.  I head from 700-year old hieroglyphics in Egypt, to post-Communist Prague, in the newly opened Czech Republic (that's the Czech part of the old Czechoslovakia).  My roommate from college, Fred and his wife Ann, now live in Prague, and have always invited me to visit, so I Czech it out.

Prague is an amazing, beautiful city which is great for tourists:  a ton of churches, towers and concert halls around open town squares with great European architecture, and everything's in walking distance.  And I arrive on Easter weekend, lucking out with great clear, warm weather.  Oh, and a ton of other tourists enjoying the weather to add to the fun.

Prague Castle
Located up the hill overlooking town, Prague Castle is impressive with its huge vaulted arched ceilings and stained glass windows.

Old Town Square
The center of town features the old town hall Clock Tower, which is animated with these 12 apostle figures every hour.  There's also a pretty impressive church.  The most fun thing though, is that there's an Easter concert stage set up in the middle of the open square, and I catch a Czech band singing a bunch of American songs, including some bluegrass, country (popular here, I guess) and even that Aerosmith song from Armageddon.

Charles Bridge

This historical bridge is packed with religious statues, and tourists looking at the religious statues, and caricaturists trying to draw photos of the tourists...well you get the idea.

There are like 20 other museums and hundreds of other churches, concert halls, statues and other significant things scattered thruout the city, but these are the main ones.

Next stop: Munich, Germany

Prague Castle

Loreta Church houses a replica of the house in Loreta, Italy, where Gabriel told Mary about baby Jesus.  The angels transported the house from the Holy Land to Loreta, Italy for protection.

Prague Castle's stained glass windows with religious scenes.

Prague girls perform outside the castle.
