Versailles

I take a day trip from Paris to Versailles, the huge castle and garden west of Paris.  The castle is impressive.

Hall of Mirrors inside look out on to the Gardens.

Gardens
The gardens are even more impressive.  The gardens in the back of the palace are like a backyard, except they go on for what seems like miles.  You can really get lost among the hedges, checking out the dozen or so sculpture fountains scattered throughout the park.

It's impressive the old Louis' kept the gardens open to the public.

I go on a Sunday, which is good because I catch the water show, where they turn on all the fountains in the park and play classical music.  It's not the Bellagio water-dances-to-music show - the water just shoots out of the fountains.  But hey, this was all built several centuries ago so give the Louie Louies a break.
